What a joy it's been to get to have Nicole as a part of our CrossFit Burien family over the past 5 months. You would never watch her and think that she is a newer CrossFit athlete. Since day 1 she's challenged her limits, asked for ways to improve her skills, and gave it her all during every class workout. Her humility is unparalleled, despite having remarkable natural ability in all areas of the sport - she picks up all of the gymnastic skills, and has a strong natural foundation of strength. We can't wait to see the caliber of athlete she becomes in a few years - with her drive and desire to improve her possibilities are endless! Other than being an awesome athlete, Nicole is such a joy to have in our classes. She a light to be around, and largely contributes to the positive, community oriented atmosphere that we treasure at CrossFit Burien! We are so grateful to have Nicole as a part of our family, and so proud of the progress she's made over the past five months - which is all a product of her own hard work!!

A little about Nicole!

Tell us about yourself?

I am a wife and mom. My husband and I have been married almost 5 years and we have a 16 month old son. I love to cook and bake, throw dinner parties, explore Washington, get together with friends, hang out with my family and show my son the world.

How did you hear about CrossFit Burien?

I always drove by the previous gym location on 152nd and I heard great things about the gym, people and workouts from Lydia, and a former member who has since moved.

Why do you do Crossfit?

I do Crossfit for the accountability and comradery. I’ve been an athlete my whole life. I swam competitively throughout my childhood and through high school, and got into running and yoga in college. Before I had a baby, I did bodybuilding but after having my son I could not get back into a training routine. I was a total mom-bie (mom zombie) and Crossfit got me moving again. Crossfit gets me out of my comfort zone and reminds me it’s good to be comfortable being uncomfortable.

What are a few of your favorite memories from Crossfit Burien?

So many! My first Rx, partner workouts, setting up Tonya’s larger than life size poster in the gym, 12 Days of Christmas workout, especially the warm up medicine ball toss, matchy matchy workout with Meridith, Casandra helping me through workouts, muscle ups in the ring thingy, Friendsgiving!

What are some short-term goals that you have recently achieved and some long term goals that you would like to achieve?

What is one piece of advice that you would pass along to a new athlete who is just starting Crossfit?

Show up no matter what and just keep moving. The workouts seem so hard at first and it’s easy to stop and drop the weight or take long breaks. If you just show up and keep moving, you will improve fast and the workouts will get more manageable.
